My Bio
Hello there, welcome to my bio,
I have been fascinated with fitness, competing, and building endurance since pre-teen. One of my earliest memories concerning fitness was when I ran cross country in middle school. I was fortunate enough to work with a coach who taught me how to build endurance. If you push pass where you last were you will get to a place you have never been before. This empirical knowledge was a precious piece of wisdom I have held dear throughout all aspects of life’s challenges. I’m blessed to be able to coach and emphasize how a safe and sustainable progression helps clients meet their goals.
As I aged I realized nutrition is also huge in meeting desired body composition, energy levels and aesthetic goals. Implementing a sustainable nutrition and fitness plan is key in meeting whatever health goal a person is trying to reach. As a person ages and as life happens nutrition and fitness can become the most powerful tools we possess to counter a slowing metabolism, grief, depression, decreasing bone density, fatigue and the countless things life throws at us. I use my degree in psychology and nutritional education to motivate a client into the most effective and sustainable nutrition goals possible. I majored in psychology to expand my believe and knowledge in the purposefulness of the human spirit. Where there is a will there is a way and the human will and spirit is very powerful!
Up until 2015 my personal athletic resume consisted of running, beginning yoga and “light” weight interval training. I knew at that point I had never truly fulfilled my athletic ability. I had never truly stayed at a fitness plan that built or maintained muscle growth for more than several weeks. And I had never truly found out how to use foods along with fitness to reach my goals. I was able to maintain a desired weight but looking back I did not use the healthiest measures to do so. My diet was not balanced or consistent, I was losing muscle, my hair was thinning, my bones seemed to bruise easily and my perception of how I looked without clothes on was not pleasing. I was about to turn 40 and I decided I needed to change the path I was on. The spark that set off my passion? Wanting to look good in a bikini while celebrating my 40th birthday.
God blessed me with enough support in my life to go after the true purpose of my life.
I understand how much trust is invested when you allow a trainer to guide you toward your goals. I hold my clients best interest at the center of their training.
I started my fitness journey with a small goal and then a bigger goal of stepping on stage. I had and still have many physical challenges to overcome to ensure training longevity. In 2003 I suffered a fractured C-2 bone, shattered Ulna bones (currently held together with 5 inch plates), 65% soft bone fractures throughout my body. I have had 6 pregnancies and one c-section and I am consistently working on correcting posture abnormalities.
I continued to increase and add to my goals for the last 3 years on consistent and continued body development, nutritional education and fitness education. I did not improve bone density, thicker hair, tighter skin, the best shape Ive ever had in my life and lean muscle mass over night; but eventually I did and continue to improve all these things.
I had to learn when my body needed something; such as the continuous sore muscles that would not go away with sufficient hydration or stretching and required adding a liquid bone support supplement and self myofascial release techniques. Recognizing when the body is struggling and what it needs to continue the longevity of consistent training is probably the most valuable knowledge I have gained from my consistent training. My injuries became a blessing in disguise as they allowed me to experience and feel what so many face when deciding to get in shape or explore adding fitness to their life. We are always told to “exercise more” but seldom told how to work around the issues our body may have.
Im proud to say I have insight in where to begin a client, recognize when a client is struggling, recommend adding a lacking nutrition element, modifying exercises, spotting posture issues, and implementing flexibility and mobility as part of the training. Because I understand when most people say “I want to get in shape”; what they are saying is they want to find the best path for their body to obtain fitness and nutritional sustainability as well as a steady progression to the best health they can possible have.
I encourage you to reach out to me and together we can begin to get your fitness goals down in writing. And we can begin to work on how to reach them one day, one week and one month at a time. We will find out what is sustainable for you and your life and we might discover a dream that inspires you to work on a long term goal; such as running that marathon or maybe stepping on that stage, or most importantly to continue to progress your health. Every custom plan I write is as unique as the individual Im writing it for; with characteristics that apply to that person and their personal body composition, energy expenditures, health history, lifestyle and goals. Thank you for visiting my site. I welcome the chance to help guide you toward your goals either in person or online. -Laura Hiatt
